LEGISLATIVE UPDATE | Law no. 203/2024
On 13 December 2024, the Italian Parliament approved Law no. 203/2024, containing a broad set of employment provisions commonly known as the “Collegato Lavoro”.
The law addressed health and safety reporting, employment administration, fixed-term probation, seasonal work, conciliation and termination following prolonged unjustified absence. Different provisions affected different stages of the employment lifecycle.
A global HR team may focus on the most visible rule and overlook supporting changes. For example, a revised probation clause is ineffective if duties are generic, while an absence procedure can be risky without checks for sickness, disability or family leave.
The Italian entity should create an implementation list assigning responsibility to HR, payroll, safety and legal teams. The objective is not merely to replace templates but to ensure that each new statutory step can be evidenced.
